JVC XR-W4080 / XR-W2080 Firmware merge, the evidence

In the Creative Firmware RW4224 V1.44 update, the following lines are found close to the end of Vcr144a.hex (my translation added)

This parallels the situation with The Smart and Friendly, where 2.47 (2080) and 1.40 (4080) are combined - note also the same relationship between the numbers.

If you open the firmware with any text editor, be very careful not to alter it... the consequences could be disastrous, so copy it first.

I recommend Programmer's File Editor as a text file handler

It sails effortlessly through huge files
Supports multiple open file windows
Allows the current file to be set READ ONLY, opened in VIEW (read only) mode, or groups of files to be defined as read only and with particular screen colours etc.
Drag and drop editing, but not between Windows
It is, and always has been, FREEWARE, although development is now discontinued.

Use any popular FTP search to locate the file pfe101i.zip - This is version 1.01 (Win32), the final version which supersedes the older 7.02 development stream. A windows 3.1 version is also available, file pfe101.zip
